How to Finally Organize Water Bottles in the Kitchen

Bottles, bottles, bottles! If you’re like me, trying to figure out how to organize water bottles in the kitchen has been quite the challenge. It seems simple but it truly is not. And, honestly, I’m still trying to figure out how we end up with so many of them.

Well, if this sounds like you then read on, wallflower. I have a few tips here for how to organize water bottles in your kitchen.

Organizing Reusable Water Bottles in the Kitchen

Bins. Multifunctional bins are an easy and economical option to organize your water bottles. You can usually buy a pack of the foldable kind for a reasonable price at most department stores. You can even find them at dollar stores.

Psst … They work for baby bottles too.

They are made to fit in shelves and cabinets with ease. Look for ones made out of wireframe, hard plastic, or wood for a sturdier option.

Wine Rack. Not just for wine bottles. Wine racks are the perfect size and shape for storing water bottles in an organized way. Plus, it makes them easy to grab when you’re running out the door.

They are also a great way to store taller bottles that may not fit on your cabinet shelf. They even make stackable wine racks if you need more than one.

Magazine holders work similarly to wine racks. If you have one around the house somewhere, you may want to give it a try.

Shoe Organizer. A door shoe organizer, also called a shoe bag, seems like an odd thing to keep in your kitchen. But you’d be surprised at how many things those generous-sized pockets can be used to organize.

My stepdaughter even got a miniature-sized one as a gift to organize her jewelry. Plus they’ll hang easily on the back of a pantry door or cabinet door.

Coat Rack. This is one a former roommate and I came up with. We both had a bunch of water bottles with straps or cords connecting the lid to the bottle. We also had a coat rack we rarely used — one of the smaller ones that hang on the back of a door.

You guessed it. We hung our water bottles on the coat rack by their connector straps. It was convenient for grabbing on the way out and returning it on the way in. We never had (water bottle) clutter, and seeing a variety of water bottles hanging on the back of the door turned out to be quite the conversation piece for guests.

Get Crafty. All the DIYers say heeeyyy!!! 😅 If you’re a maker, and have time to do it, you can absolutely make your own storage container for water bottles. This is a great option if you have a bunch in different sizes and shapes.

Water Bottle Racks. Yes. They actually make these now. You can usually find a water bottle holder with the refrigerator organizing bins and trays. These are great for your refrigerator if you like to have a cold bottle of your choice beverage ready to grab.

Shelf and Drawer Dividers. These are typically used in closets but are a good option if your water bottles are sharing space in your kitchen cabinets with other dishes or cookware.

By Function or By Owner. This tip is more about how to sort your water bottles when organizing them. Functional organization means you’ll be able to grab the type of water bottle you need at the moment like travel mugs or coffee cups.

Think categories such as insulated to keep warm or cold or both; handle or no handle; straw or no straw. One category I separate for easy reach with my water bottles is infuser or not.

By owner means just that. All kid A’s bottles, kid B’s bottles, the hubs’ bottles, or any other family member who seems to be building a water bottle collection. If you have older kids, make sure to get them in on this process.

Rotation. Lastly, if you have a lot of water bottles, I recommend storing them in an out-of-the-way place except for your favorite water bottle. Then rotate them out now and then so you get to use your bottles without them causing a lot of clutter. This is the best way to keep your kitchen countertop from becoming a water bottle parking lot.

Keep in mind finding a simple water bottle storage solution shouldn’t be an extra cost or require a lot of time. These organization ideas are meant to be some of the easiest ways to get it done.

Great tips, Tiffany. But what if I have a small kitchen? Great question!

Other Places to Store Water Bottles

Pantry. Usually kitchen-adjacent and perfect for storing water bottles. A pantry shelf usually has enough room to accommodate any type of bottle.

Closet. Finding a small section of your closet might be all you need to organize and store your water bottles. My first apartment – affectionately known as “The Shoebox” – was so tiny, you don’t even want to know how many things I had to store in the closet.

Garage. If you have a garage, push aside those Christmas decorations and excessive gift-wrapping materials (or is that just my garage 🫣) and make room for water bottles. Not the most convenient but, when space is limited, it will work just fine.
